6 Battery Lightning players sign their NLI's

The Battery Lightning Softball organization based out of Rochester, NY is happy to announce that 6 members of this year’s graduation class will be signing their National Letters of Intent this month (November).

Lacey Clark of Victor, NY (Victor, HS) is signing with Hofstra University out of the Colonial Athletic Conference. Hofstra is coming off the programs most successful season under the direction of legendary Head Coach Bill Edwards. Lacey has spent the last 2 years with the Battery Lightning Gold developing her skills and performing before college coaches at various events. Before joining the Battery she spent 2 seasons with the TC Tremors softball organization based out of Binghamton, NY. Through this high level travel softball experience Hofstra is gaining a well prepared and battle tested athlete in the 2014 season.

Mackenzie Cleary of Fairport, NY (Fairport, HS) is signing with St John’s University of the Big East Conference joining Section V alumna Courtney Budynas (’12 HFL/TC Tremors). Mackenzie has spent the last few seasons training and developing on the Battery Lightning Gold team. She had the luxury of verbally committing to St John’s in her Junior year coming off 2 very successful seasons performing in front of college coaches at various events. Mackenzie will bring her powerful hitting at the plate and hard-nosed play to St John’s for the 2014 season.

Sam Broking of Fairport, NY (Fairport, HS) is signing with the University at Albany of the America East Conference. Sam spent last season with both the Battery Lightning Elite and Gold teams developing and performing for college coaches. The challenge of trying to make up for lost recruiting time was very real but in that short time with us Sam was able to garner a variety of interested schools before verbally committing to Albany this past Summer. Sam brings her power at the plate and solid play at first base to the University at Albany campus for the 2014 season.

Desiree Gonzalez of Greece, NY (Arcadia, HS) is signing with St Bonaventure University of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Desiree has spent the last few seasons with the Battery Lightning Gold team training and developing her skills to put on full display for college coaches. She was able to generate a variety of interested schools through her incredible strength and athleticism before electing to stay closer to home and committing to Head Coach Mike Threehouse. Desiree brings incredible strength, speed and athleticism to St Bonaventure beginning in the 2014 season.

Kiera Lorenzo of Brighton, NY (Brighton, HS) will join Desiree in signing with St Bonaventure University of the Atlantic 10 Conference. Kiera has also spent the last few seasons training and developing her skills starting with the 14U team and then the last couple seasons on the Gold team. Kiera’s slick fielding and fundamentally sound middle infield play made her a very attractive player on the recruiting circuit. Coach Threehouse grabs 2 out of 3 of the Battery Lightning Gold’s current middle infield rotation by signing Kiera. Kiera brings to the Bonnies as smooth a glove and fielder there is in the game to go along with her consistent bat.

Ali Van Giesen of Auburn, NY (Auburn, HS) is signing with Niagara University of the MAAC Conference. Ali will join 2011 Battery Lightning alumn and current Purple Eagle Des Maldonado at Niagara. Ali has spent the last few seasons with the Battery Lightning Gold team. A dominant HS pitcher in Section III Ali did a number of things in her time with the Battery Lightning Gold including pitching and outfield duty. Her strength, athleticism and leadership were always on full display for the college coaches. This generated a variety of interest but it was a late push by new Niagara Head Coach- Ellie Chan that convinced Ali that Niagara University was the place for her. Ali brings exactly what Coach Chan recruited her for in a “do everything” exceptional utility player/athlete who is comfortable leading.

Please join us in congratulating these fine young ladies on their signing days as they join their 2012 Battery Lightning teammates at the D-1 level in Riley Johnson-Syracuse and Theresa Clancy-Pittsburgh.  The Battery Lightning is proud in that we do not have players that had to go to other organizations in order to get their exposure/recruiting and then on our website make it look like they were with us if they came back to us their senior year.  We are also proud that we do not mis-lead people with a "In College" section listing where our girls are going to college despite the fact they were not recruited by and in many cases did not play softball at all at said school.  Credibility and results = Battery Lightning Softball
